pitchHey, writerly folks! Tomorrow (January 25th) on Twitter, there will be a partaaay of pitches happening on the #Pitmad hashtag. Agents will be swinging by to make requests! If you’d like to participate, here are the ground rules:

  • Your pitch must be no longer than 140 characters, minus the #PitMad hashtag.
  • Do not pitch agents directly unless they specifically ask you to do so! If you don’t follow this rule, they may be VERY turned off to you in the future.

That’s it!

If you’d like some help on your pitch, post yours in my comment section today and tomorrow and I’ll comb it and preen it and make it beautiful with you!

What do you think of this for the #pitmad pitch?

When Anne time travels & becomes revolutionary Charlotte Corday, she must decide: will she kill Jean-Paul Marat, or change history? #pitmad

  2. Donna Barker

Heather – you share the BEST contest links on the web! Would love your help to make my characters gorgeous!

#PitMad Drinking Scotch with Strangers. Rebel Romance for the mature woman whose libido demands a taster’s tray of men, not a single bottle

    • Heather

Yay! Glad to help, Donna. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’d say: A woman’s libido demands a taster’s tray of men, not just a single malt. Drinking Scotch w/ Strangers. #erotica #pitmad Plus, give us one other cool detali b/c u have 21 characters left!

  3. Liz S

Sorry – I tweaked it already!

When Anne time travels & becomes French revolutionary Charlotte Corday, she must choose: kill Jean-Paul Marat or change history? #pitmad

  4. Donna Barker

    Love it, Heather! Thank you!

    I’m hoping for something between….

New Witch on campus juggles prejudiced roommate, magical rivalries, untrustworthy romance, and the mystery of a missing girl.

Every step Reese takes into the world of Witches reveals another crack in its structure. How many steps are left?

I’m trying to balance mood with content. Help pleeease. (P.S. this is lovely and generous of you)

    • Heather

I acutally like the first a lot. It tells us so much, whereas the second doesn’t tell us anything except that there’s a witch trying to uncover something–way too vague.

      Try:

New Witch on campus becomes ensared in mystery of missing girl. Magical rivalries & untrustworthy hottie complicate matters. #pitmad

Or something like this. I ditched roommate stuff b/c it’s covered under “rivalries”. Maybe just tweak “complicate matters”, but I’d totally retweet this if I saw it! Good luck and keep me posted! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Thanks for this! Here’s mine:

Armed with magic,Oliver Bradshaw enters the monsters’ world with his best friend, his worst enemy, and a monster to rescue children. #PitMad

Any comments you have would be helpful! Thanks again!

    • Heather

Hmmm, George. I’m trimming things that don’t matter in such a short space. What are the stakes? That’s what the second phrase should be.

Armed with magic, Oliver attempts to rescue kidnapped children in monster realm before XXX. #pitmad

      OR

Oliver wields magic to rescue kidnapped children from monster realm until XXX. #pitmad

Does this help at all? I like what you have, just needs a tiny bit about the stakes. ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck!

  7. Kris Mehigan

Hi Heather! Thanks for offering to review PitMad pitches. I have 3 versions for my NA-Suspense MS. Would love your thoughts! Kris

A- Her professor was hell-bent on rewriting history… until Megyn got in his way. Whereโ€™s a secret society when you need one?

B- Her professor discovered new info about Thomas Jefferson. Heโ€™s on all the talk shows. Thereโ€™s one problem. Megyn knows he lied.

C- Her dad asked his secret society to watch over Megyn. Good thing. She needs their help to stop the man who is hunting her.

  8. May

    YAY. Tweaked and much thanks.

  9. George Anthony Kulz

Thanks, big help! How bout this:

Armed with magic,Oliver tries to rescue kidnapped children in monster realm before their war spills into his own and no one is safe. #PitMad

    • Heather

Much better! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I would only ditch “and no one is safe” b/c it’s already implied by war spilling over. Maybe put genre at the end there, instead. Good luck!

  10. Liz S

You rock Heather! Thanks for letting us know about the contest ๐Ÿ™‚
